I'm thinking about digging up a set of "U" shaped rubber mounts from a later model truck and building some custom brackets. I've had leak problems in the past, and now the entire side of the radiator is comming off. This may not be a big deal to most of you who only see street driving, but maxing out the suspension flex with this 4x4 really twists the frame where the radiator mounts, and is literally pulling the radiator apart. Right now, I've only got 4 bolts holding it in place (instead of 6), but it's still giving me troubles.
Any ideas? If I can get ahold of a camera, I'll post a few pics. | | |

I had to do this when the radiator from my 59 carryall was stolen while the truck was stored in a tow-in lot. (It had broken down, and before I could recover it from the towing service, somebody helped himself to the radiator!) I used the lower mount assembly from a rubber-mounted crossflow radiator, and fabricated an upper hold-down assembly from sheet metal. It worked OK, including a cross-country trip from California to Tennessee, towing another vehicle.

Do you have any pics of the way you mounted your radiator? I kinda have an idea of how I want to do it, but any other advice would be very helpful! | | |

Like I said, most people won't have this problem, because the do all street driving, but this old 4x4 was ment to be off road, so it sees it's share of time on the trails. I wonder of 1/2's have this problem, because they would have a much lighter suspension that would flex better, and take more stress off the frame. | | |
