Will operate it off a toggle switch in lieu of a trinary switch.
Been looking at the usual plasic-cased relays and double relay setups for fans, and sure would like to find a metal relay that could be used for extended periods of time without cooking.
I've considered an old style metal horn relay but am hoping someone will have a better idea. Don't know if they would handle the extended time under power. I'm using the plastic bosch-style relays on my headlights but just want something that is a bit more ruggedfor the 14" fan. Any suggestions you might have would sure be appreciated.

The traditional automotive relay can stay energized for eons and not vaporize. If the contact rating of the relay is adequate for the draw of your pusher fan, the relay could stay latched for years and not suffer any self destruction.

New vehicles use them on fuel pumps & fans all the time. What about a high blower relay used to be on all the GM cars back in the 60,s & 70,s. They were made for continuos duty at high amps. All metal case and it can be modified with small machine screws to secure the terminals. I don't like spade ends on high draw stuff!!! Rock Auto let's you dig up an application and #'s so the local parts suppliers don't have a nervous breakdown. Several radiator shops say not to put a pusher/puller fan combo on your radiator. They say it creats a votex at the radiator and causes less air to flow not more. You might check it out.

I'm going to run it directly off a manual switch instead of off a trinary and will use it only when I know I'm going to be puttzing along in a cruise or idling for extended periods of time. Hopefully, it's location in front of the radiator won't prove to restrict too much airflow at normal driving speeds. Time will tell! Thanks for your comment. Dave  | | |
