I'm looking into buying a 2 1/2 ton truck just for the cab but Is there a difference between a 1/2 and a 2 1/2 ton cab?

There are a couple differences in small items. If the truck has a floor mounted parking brake the hardware for the foot operated brake will need to be sourced, up to and including the firewall mounting bracket. If the truck has a 2-speed rear end there will be some additional hardware and holes on the firewall to consider. Dimensionally they are the same, mounts changed in 1949 to frame shackles from a center pivot and bumpers. Trucks in the U.S. are rated to 2-tons usually but in other markets can be equipped for ratings as high as 5-tons. All my comments are for AD's. Your best bet is to find a similar year cab so the changeover shares common parts, 47-48 or 49-53 or 54-55 1st Series.

Thanks Brad! The 2 1/2 ton truck is a 1947 advance design. It has a two speed rearend, emergency hand brake lever, and I would like to put the cab on a half ton frame with a flatbed and make it into a swapmeet hauler. I know the front fenders have a bigger wheel well and the grille is longer, but is the rear of the 2 1/2 ton cab wider, where the frame rails come out? And would 1/2 ton front fenders look funny and would they fit on a 2 1/2 ton cab without making any modifications? Thanks again

Are you referring to a GMC 2.5 ton truck (1947, New Design)?

Here are the 1947 Chevrolet Advance-Design models.

If you are referring to the A-D cab, it is the same for all sizes of Chevrolet trucks. The smaller fenders and the larger fender will bolt onto that cab.

Fenders looking funny might just be in the eye of the viewer/beholder. What size wheels/tires will you be using (1/2 ton 15"/16" wheels or bigger truck 20" wheels)? Match the fenders to the wheels.
