Current tester shows current until I pull the DA plug. It is a small current but it does take the battery down over time. Is there a way to stop the back flow?

I would guess you have a failed component in your alternator. The diode deal you are probably thinking of is to prevent engine run on when the #1 wire is wired in such a way as to feed the coil after the key is turned off. Yours is a different animal..a diode inside the alternator has failed.
