In all 'MY' years of driving I've had several ballast resistors fail.
After the second time I just started carrying a spare with the extra set of points... I thought it was 'stupid' to spend more money than was needed on a part I couldn't fix or 'inexpensively' replace. (There was a clear price difference between a coil and a ballast resistor), I hope no one gets BH over that..
