Your question about what most would agree on is sincere but humorous. Most reasonable people agree on encouraging people to do what suits their tastes, abilities, and budgets.
If you cannot do sophisticated sheet metal repair, look for the best sheet metal that you can afford to pay for. Try to buy a truck that has lived in a dry environment - inspect it carefully, and/or hire a pro to inspect it carefully.
