The 1954 6v light switch works fine at 12v for all the components that were normally connected to the light switch (mine has worked at 12v for over 8 years). I assume this is also correct for pre-1954 light switches - they are slightly different but are often used interchangeably by changing the knob/stem - the knob stems are different lengths and there might be other internal differences.
