OK, so this was my final solution. I put the nut/bolt that screws into the back side of the bell housing in the lathe, and I removed that first two threads on the outside. That permitted the bolt/nut to catch the threads on the ball stud first. Then I giggled it into place to thread into the bell housing. The threads can cross, so proceed with caution on the last part. This was suppose to be the easy part of the operation. One never knows....
