The trigger module takes the pulses from the pertronix or a hall effect sensor & makes them into a signal for the coil. HEI runs alot more juice than a standard coil so points are a thing of the past. This link shows the Pertronix HEI ignition module that can be used easily enough. The thing about going this simpler route is the module should be mounted in an enclosure, you can get metal ones from Radio Shack or make one.
As for the remote HEI coil, it's the same guts as the in-cap coil, but for applications where space was an issue. A couple passenger cars didn't have the space needed to clear the big ol herky HEI dizzy/coil combos. The MSD Blaster Coil is one I'm looking at as an upgrade to my system as it's a standard GM coil pack and is easy to mount in a box. However, if you dont mind it being out there for the world to see, there are the surface mount coils like the MSD Blaster HVC-2 coil, or the Mallory Promaster Classic which even comes with a ceramic ballast resistor.
If you dont want to put all that in the engine compartment & want to be sneaky, you can mount a dummy coil in the engine compartment, and use a Firewall feed-thru and mount the coil & trigger module inside the cab up under the dash. Hell for radio noise, but keeps the engine bay clean & clear. You can even keep the stock coil in operable shape in case you need a spare. If the coil or module crap, you just pull the coil wire off the feed-thru, pop it on the dummy coil, and if you run a circut junction block to divide the coils, it's possible to simply switch over from one system to the other. Old baja truck/buggy trick, has saved many a rear.

Lots of options out there, just have to decide how you want to mount it, then put it in.
If you need some help with figguring out what I'm talkin about on the wiring I can throw together a line schematic and send it, or I can just post it here. I'm sure I have started a few gear heads wheels a'churnin by now. grin

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!
