Here is what I did. I used 3'6" of 3/8" and I unbolted the last bolt going into the head (closest to the firewall on the carb side) and I used the bolt hole on the front of the motor besides the thermostat housing. Just make sure you get the threads all the way in and use washers. My cherry picker was a one ton lift from HF that worked for me. Just go slow.
