In building my truck I learned a lot about the differences for '46. For the American trucks in that year, the GMC had a much better engine, you could get a long box in a 1/2 ton (not just 3/4 ton) they had a steel box floor, etc., etc. Because GMC's were more expensive, they wanted there to be enough differences between the trucks and make the GMC more heavy-duty in order for buyers to justify the extra cost. They also tried to make enough parts obviously different to justify the cost, and make the GMC trucks look more "Up-scale".
Interestingly, the Canadian GMC's had the chevy powertrain, wood box floor, etc.
