The max spacing allowed is 5/64ths.. that's a pretty big gap to try and 'squish' out. My mount does have the castle nuts and the bolts are drilled for a cotter pin.
One cool think I noticed was the thick washers had a bow tie emblem stamped into them.... at least I know they are a chevvy part.
