Is there enough metal in the nut to go oversize. Will the nut hold and not break loose in the tank?
Just weighing all the options.

This topic came up a year or 2 ago and just for giggles I converted an M8 nut to 1/8" NPT being that 11/32" is slightly bigger than 8 mm so it will clean up. For best results use a pipe tap reamer to taper the hole before tapping which will reduce the cutting force required and prevent tearing of the threads. An interrupted (aka skip tooth) tap will also help.
