I followed a similar path when it came to do mine,I bought generic sound deadener self adhesive pads from my local paint shop,I then covered that with the foil backed heat insulation everywhere,firewall,roof and behind the seat.
I used 3M carpet contact adhesive for the foil and so far it's holding up well,including the roof,despite some unusually high and prolonged(80+) summer temps here this year.
I'm pleased with the results,I can hold a normal conversation at 60+mph and without being cooked by heat transferal....

Best of all(and being a full card carrying thrifty Scot)it didn't cost a whole lot either! thumbs_up
