parking lights are the front small lights, only on in the 'park' position of the switch - running lights are a more recent concept, if you prefer to have running lights [parking lights on with headlights], there's a tech tip for that - tail lights should be on in both positions, if your tail lights go off when you switch on headlights, you have a wiring problem
