Answer, YES.
Although it does not sound like much, using the smaller wire allows you to use less amps, less amps means less heat, less heat means less distortion to your metal panels.
Look at your suggested settings placard on your machine or in the manual and you will see a lower "heat" setting.
Unless you are great at bodywork AND love banging metal, go for the thinner wire.
