I'll try that today. I used the meter yesterday to learn that the battery was toast. Now I'll try it again and see what it looks like running.
Your guess is about the same as mine on how it got messed up. The red wire went to the engine ground, the black to the starter.
Should I just put it back that way and leave well enough alone? Everything seemed to work ok until the battery went dead... 14 months of light use seems like a short life. It just dropped dead.
I did notice that the heater worked (switch was bumped when opening the floor vent) when 12 volt was in use. It never worked 6 volt. Maybe same guy was confused and began a 12 volt rebuild when he re did the truck. The horn would just go "thud" when you hit it in 6 volt. I thought it was dead and removed it, so I didn't test it with 12.
I don't think he did a full 12 volt, because the battery always held a charge... Wait, maybe there is something to look at there.
How do I best test the generator/regulator to see what it is putting out? Is that best done at the battery too?
