I'm convinced IPE is my wood of choice. It may not be the wood originally used, but IPE (aka Iron Wood) is ridiculously strong & dense. It stains like mahogany or fades out to a beautiful Nantucket grey if left unfinished. I build homes and use IPE all the time on decks and exterior structures.
