I fill just like Tim posted, with a qt. gear oil bottle.
Don't be overly concerned about the U-joint ball
unless it's bone dry from a rebuild, even then it had
to have a little lube when it was reassembled. The
oil will work it's way back thru the rear bearing and
level itself out.
And that's the reason you need to check the gear oil level in
the trans after driving it a couple of times, as the oil works
it way back into the ball your level will drop some in the
trans.
