Tim Sheridan (Stovebolter "Sheridan") has a wealth of information about 1946 Chevrolet trucks on his website. You'll loose a day just looking at all of his photos, documentation, and information.
http://www.46chevytruck.com/

A good "factory photo" of a 1946 tailgate is on page 27 of 52 and page 28 of 52 of "Unit Designed Chevrolet Truck Bodies." Doesn't look like it has any raised or indented letters nor is "Chevrolet" or a logo painted on it. Disclaimer - this is just me talking out of my *** from looking at the pics, but no first hand knowledge.

Similar photo, but not as clear is on page 18 of 84 in "1941 Chevrolet Trucks The Gold Book of Truck Values."

Both books are on Tim's website, plus another must-have ... "1946 Chevrolet Truck Data Book for Chevrolet Salesmen." Download and save all three. Large files / long download.
