My recently purchased 51' chevy 3100, came with a box of nuts/screws, etc. and two clam shell shaped horns. I read in an earlier thread, about the horns being attached to the firewall, there are four bolts on the firewall, above and to the left of the voltage regulator, two of these bolts, match up to the holes in the horn bracket, but there does not seem to be enough room in that postion to place even one of the horns. I can't figure the wiring though! There is a horn button under the dash, two wires come off this button, run through the firewall, and attach to what looks like a horn relay. This relay has three terminals on it. There are two large (10 or 8 guage) original cloth covered wires attached to two of the terminals, these two wires come out of the original wire loom. I assume that one connects to th + side of the ammeter. and the other would have connected to the original horn button, and the third terminal would have connected to the horn? The two wires running from the horn button through the firewall are connected to the relay, with one wire being connected to one of the terminals with an already original wire on it, and the other wire from the horn button connected to the third terminal by it's self. This does not make sense to me. My shop repair manual shows no relay. just two wires running to one horn, with one wire coming from the + side of the ammeter. and the second wire running from the horn button, both ending up at the horn it's self, though I believe there is only one terminal for connection on the horn it's self. If I trace the original 2 large wires that are on this relay, will I find one connected to the ammeter, and the other dissconnected from the original horn? Thanks for any help!! :rolleyes:
