possibly it was the hand brake that hit the the rams horn? or it was the type of manifold that dumped at the back and the floor pedal hit that? .... but, yes wanderer, there are hundreds of 47-54 truck owners here that would like to know how to mate a V8 to a 235 bellhousing, would save searching for a V8 bellhouse
OTOH, "Around '68 '69" was so long ago you might misremember that it was the 327 with bellhousing, that fit right up to the original trans
