The vacuum control further advances your timing at high vacuum situations. It was mainly designed for a little more fuel economy. Most larger trucks had no vacuum control because they were at full throttle most of the time. The chances are good that you have a ruptured diaphragm or the linkage is hanging. When my jalopies are running good, I leave them alone.
