My 5 year project with my 1946 Suburban is heading toward completion.

In the early stages I split the tailgate to reinforce the hinge areas and replace all the rotten wood supports inside.

The wood was really bad and I had to guess its contours.

Today I started installing the latch assembly and quickly discovered that the wood supports I had placed inside now blocked the latch rods from going across the top so I will have to now drill a hole through the wood in order for the rods to actuate the latches.

In retrospect this problem should have been a "blinding flash of the obvious" but I missed it and did not allow for the rods.

A friend of mine, Brian Mueller, of Classy Chevy USA makes a reproduction tailgate wood kit out of Oak if anybody else is restoring one of these classic beauties.

The Ebay number for this kit is 230991020767.

Brian can be reached at [email protected].
I hope this saves somebody else a lot of aggravation.
