I'm heading into an area I've avoided for decades as electrical do-hookies and I don't get along. I'm rebuilding my generator and starter for my 1954 Chevrolet 3800. I bought a kit and have disassembled the generator...almost. The generator I'm rebuilding was a working unit and I don't understand why after seeing some of the parts. I can't get this out, what's the trick. Next question is on the armature. This does not look healthy. What's a ballpark price for another one or a rebuild? And lastly, these wires came off something but I'm not sure. Do I need new field coils or is this something I can cobble back together? I don't understand electrical stuff so please use small words and act like you're talking to a 4 year old.
