Alan - quality does has some relevance, but them 'mini-things' are electronically tuned, just like the antennas on aircraft and spacecraft, physical size doesn't matter
where I've seen'em is mounted under the running boards on hot rods - works there, but no tellin what make they were - have you tried talking to the maker?
