UPDATE - 6 months later.... My truck is restored and the worst problems I've had with the entire rebuild is with the radio. Now let's understand that my buddy who helped me won First Place in the Ridler Award - he's also built and sold hot rods at Mecum. He's no slouch.
So after the third time sending the radio back here's what it's doing:
1) Turn the power knob on - have to turn it over a full turn before it gets to volume
2) About 3-4x out of 10 when the radio comes on it's off station
3) About 2 out of 10x there's a squelch when turned on
4) Most of the time there's a faint pop at turn on
Once on it sounds great - I have no complaints with the sound.
I took it to a high end audio dealer for an independent assessment. They said it was the potentiometer - part of the on/off switch. I told Antique Radio and they refuse to believe it. They want me to send the radio back - a FOURTH TIME! I'm figuring that they couldn't get it right the first three times why would I think they could fix it on the fourth try - -
Let me state that they are nice enough and willing to keep fixing it - but I've now spent $50 in shipping back and forth. And each time I'm without tunes for at least two weeks (that's over 6 weeks without a radio in total) I keep asking for a replacement but they said no that's not their policy. So let's see, they'd rather keep spending money on their help NOT fixing it and having a [censored] off customer??? I don't get it.
What gets my gall is their "techie arrogance" they refuse to think that there is something wrong with their radio build. How arrogant!
So I'm done with them. I would never, ever, ever recommend them to anyone. You may get a fine radio - but if you get a lemon (at $500!!) then you're S.O.L.
