My last battery was an Everready from Walmart and it lasted five years. However, if you want to convert to 12 volts, it is pretty simple to do. You can click on Tech Tips at the top of the page and you will find one on this subject. In a nutshell you would change the generator out for a 12 volt, change all the bulbs, use a resistor for the fuel gauge and a resistor or reducer for the heater blower and the radio.
