YEA! Finally got it. The problem was that I expected a greater range of motion than what actually occurs. I was moving the column portion and it moves a great deal more than is actually needed to shift the gears. So after your help, I finally have new bushings in both transmission connections and a freshly painted linkage. Thanks again for the help. I will definitely try to ask more intelligent questions in the future.
