This might to obvious, or wrong, but I would think at least one wire goes TO the coil. If you have the 6 volt system you probably still have a generator. I am not sure on this either, but there might be a switched wire TO the voltage regulator. The supply side of the switch should come FROM the battery, meaning it comes through the ammeter.
Hopefully, before you burn your new system up, the resident electrical engineers will make a appearance and give us the straight poop. Did Chevy Duty not supply a comprehensive wiring diagram for your rig?
