I had an awful intermittent miss and was thinking that I made a mistake buying a $65.00 Chinese distributor off ebay. I finally found a loose wire on the distributor (my own fault). Now the motor runs better than it has since I got it. The points kept fouling on the old distributor is why I changed it. I am not sure if it would be an upgrade for your Mallory or not.I was replacing a wore out distributor.
