For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 36 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 36 | That is exactly what I did. I was under the impression the only difference between the axle housings were the backing plates. That isn't totally true. The hole in the backing plate to go into the axle is smaller for bendix axle housings. I think i read a post from pre68 Dave that said the bendix plates themselves mount farther inboard on the vehicle than the hucks. I would tend to agree looking at the two axle housing. This makes changing the location even harder. I'd recommend to anyone to keep the backing plates riveted on because you won't get as tight a connection between the plate and axle short of welding it and I'm not very good at welding. I figured if I'm in it for the long haul on the truck the swap will pay for itself with 35 vs 90 dollar drums. I got the housing complete with e brake parts for 150. Axles, seals, bearings, and third member went together like normal. | | |
