Several years ago I had a electrical fire under the hood of my '66 C-30. The insulation on auxiliary wire that runs from the postive battery terminal to the horn relay was damaged where it runs through the grille. This resulted in a electrical fire under the hood. Fortunately, I had a fire extinquisher in the cab, and was able to put it out. When I replaced the burned wires, alternator and voltage regulator, I put a fuse link near the horn relay to minimize any damage if something like this happened again.
It might be a good idea for anyone with one of these trucks to install a fuse link. It could save your truck from being destroyed by a fire.
