You can tell by the engine serial number if the 53-55 235 engine was installed/set-up for a truck, car, or Corvette.
The 235 engines used in 53-55 Corvettes differed from other same-year 235s:
- higher lift 261 cam (large truck engine)
- mechanical lifters as used in trucks (even though a Powerglide was used on Corvettes - all other Powerglide engines had hydraulic lifters)
- aluminum camshaft timing gear (as used in truck 261/235 engines)
- of course, different intake/exhaust/carburetors
