Neil, I believe yopu could use steel lines such as swag-lock to ensure a good solid connection. However, there may be some vibration which could cause the line to crack. Also, you must check the ID of the metal part attached to the original hoses to ensure the proper amount of flow. You could fabricate a restricter if necessary. With oil, a concern is heat, but with the flow running through it would more than likely be okay. You could try to avoid the hot area as much as possible by re-routing the lines.
I believe the best thing to do would be to replace the lines with the OEM type. I do think which ever type lines you install will work.
