Im in the process of rebuilding the Heater/Defroster unit from my '54 Chevy, the basic Airflow type. While dismantling it there were two strips of an insulation type material attached on either side of the heater core. They were about 1" wide and ran the length of the core.
What was the purpose of these strips? When i go to reassemble the unit are these strips something i should try to replace/replicate or are they unnecessary?
