Hi Alvin....you can get Stainless steel in a variety of thickneses, and finishes from mirror polished to heavy brushed.
I kinda like your idea of the " engine turned " finish - would look pretty sharp and not seen every day. Only issue with stainless is its really hard on sawblades and drillbits. You might try a restaurant supply place - maybe they have a few cutoffs laying around ?
