My wife and I took the '48 with it's rebuilt 261 on the road for the first time last Monday. We drove around the neighborhood and when we came past our house for the 2nd lap, we saw that someone ahead of us was leaking something because of a continuous dark streak in the asphalt. When we came around for the 3rd lap, there were 2 streaks in the asphalt! Oh, oh!

I was using an outboard motor gas can for my tank and the original under-the-bed tank had some 18-month old gas in it. I didn't plug up the outlet. It didn't leak when it was parked on the sloping driveway but did on the level. Wheww!!

(By the way, outboard gas cans are good for starting rebuilds because you can prime the system with the squeeze bulb.)
