Hardy: I have been investigating kinda the same situation. My thinking (I might be all wet) is to leave both things active. Yes what you are thinking will work. As long as you have a hot & ground with the wire all things in common shoud activate. Beside's this will give you an emergency switch in case one or the other doesn't work.
