As a general rule, the bigger reservoir is for disc brakes. Picture this, a caliper has a bigger fluid capacity compared to a wheel cylinder. As the pad wears, the caliper reservoir behind the piston requires more fluid to replace it than it would compared to the area inside a wheel cylinder. Look at a Corvette master cylinder. Equal bowls as the Corvette (except for some early versions ) were always disc and disc.
