I am still in the "Thinking long and hard before I start messing stuff up" stage of restoring the 54' 1/2ton Chevy I recently bought. I believe that everything is original below the sheet metal (235, three on the tree). My goal is a truck I can enjoy driving everyday including plenty of umph for the highway. My thoughts on the engine are to add some Fenton headers (chrome if possible), substitute a higher compression head, some sort of multiple carb ??? and a Mallory dual-point distributor. I have no idea what I should do with the transmission. I would like to know If I need to replace my closed driveshaft with an open one. Would you guys recommend the "Patrick's" rear-end conversion or some other option. Any and all criticism/suggestions are welcome as I am completely new to this stuff. I really want to do it right the first time if I can!
