supplies batt voltage to the coil when the starter is engaged - otherwise voltage is supplied thru the ignition resistor and is less than 12v - will work fine w/o that wire until there's a condition that makes the motor reluctant to start, when it won't - wires w/ unknown purposes are everywhere
it's a conspiricy to make life seem complicated!! rip'em all out!
