I like to consult a Motors Manual as well as the 2 mentioned. The factory shop manual was written by tech writers, the Motors Manuals were written by mechanics. They are not a "generic" manual. They are very specific and have lots of good info on engines, trannies and other components.
Look for one from the early '50s on Ebay.
