I , too, used spray headliner adhesive on the stock cardboards to glue modern styled foam backed cloth headliner fabric.
I fit the cardboards first to get the curve of the roof into the cardboard before I sprayed and attached the cloth. Compensating for the curve of the roof eliminates bunching and wrinkling that would occur if just gluing to a flat plane.
No problems, looks good, just one of those artsy craftsy kinds of projects that take time and patience when you are tucking it all back together!
