Actually it may not be that simple, if he has a 53 bed, he may have a 53 frame, so the 54/55 bed would not fit right? Not to mention the tailgate he has will not work on a 54/55 bed.
54'55 frame is all by itself with a low kick up in the frame above the rear axle.
Awwww darn the luck. Hey keep the 54 parts and just order some 54 side panels. Then you'll have a 54 truck with a 54 bed.
There you go, problem solved and YOU don't have to pay the shipping! again. Then sell the 53 bed and make up the difference.....it's only money
