Rider, I had the same problem the the 6v gen in my 46. I didn't want to just change parts until it was fixed, I wanted to figure out why then gen wouldn't -erate. Well, to make a short story, long, I changed the brushes, cleaned the commutator, even put a couple of drops of oil in the oil cups, polarized, repolarized, maded some sparks with a wire and was about to give up when I decided to remove the brand-new looking regulator and found out that the resistors on the back of the reg were toast. The best I can figue is that whoever put the reg in before I bought the truck had the wires reversed on the generator. I didn't do it, I swear! I put on a new reg, made sure the wires were right on the gen & the reg, re-re-repolarized the gen and voila, juice! Anyway, check the back of the reg to see if the resistors are burned.
