Paul; thanks for the feed back. First, I may have a 162 tooth(maybe 159 tooth?, not sure)flywheel. It was on the engine (56 truck) when I rebuilt the engine. That will probably explain why I can't use the stomp starter. The drive gear is different than the starter with the solinoid, not leting it engage with the flywheel. So I will either have to change the flywheel(UGH)or use the newer starter. Does the 138 tooth interchange with the 56 engine? I don't believe the drivegears can be switched.
The linkage that connects to the 3 speed connects to a lever that mounts onto a shaft that is on the dr. side of clutchhousing. Is the shaft a press fit into the housing? I have the levers but not the shaft and the spring and hardware that holds the lever onto the shaft. Is the bellhousing different on the 56 than the 50? My bellhousing has a hole on the drivers side for a shaft. Whats thecasting no. for the 47-53 housing?
