Dave. I'll give this a shot but let others jump in too. I believe that you're going to need a bell housing out of a 47-53 engine with a three on the tree shifter. You will have to find the appropriate steering column. That would be a gmc or chev three on the tree column from 47-53.
I'm not sure about the trans selection question but I would think that ny three speed from that era should work
Be cognizant on flywheel and starter selection. There is a 138 and 162 Tooth (if I recall) flywheel and starter combination. be sure the starter and flywheel match
