Just found the answer from a post by F&J. Apparently setting the octane selector to zero was another way of saying loosen the distributor bolt and turn between advance and retard (zero). In the context of preparing to time the engine that is. So there it is, and I learned alot. Thanks again stovebolters -freezerburn
