The floor start system does have a button switch atop the starter. It it activated by mechanical means, your foot on a button in the floor.

What Wrenchbender was referring to is, there are switches for 6V and 12V. The 12V switch has a side terminal. It is used to send 12V to the coil when the starter is engaged. Normally the coil has reduced voltage from the ballast resistor.
